New York

New York.

It's a funny place. For some strange reason, I hadn't thought that I'd like New York - but I love it! It's a place of vitality and great contrasts. Here even the old is modern, but somehow it doesn't seem to matter. Having made a brief visit to Staten Island on the free ferry I decided to forgo the subway and walk up Broadway from it southern-most point back to 46th Street. Sure, there is blending of the districts but there are still some clear contrasts, if not by look then by smell and cuisine. I set myself a challenge to photograph something quintessentially New York and here we have it. It's modern - but traditional. It's dynamic and appealing (at least to children). It's bold, look how the red stands out, but manages to refrain from being garish.
